Republic Day- National celebration
26th of January is a celebration of India becoming a Republic after a long struggle for freedom, one of the most important milestone of independent India. The day when we remember the sacrifice of freedom fighters, and resolve to Nation's wellbeing. During our childhood days, the day used to gives us proud moments, proud of belonging to a great Nation. Watching this event on telly, where the whole of nation's might rolls out on Rajpath, the grandeur of security is displayed as a parade, and there is a spectacular display of state's heritage and progress, used to be much awaited event. In childhood these things feel larger than life.
It is a tradition that during evening hours, upto the day of Beating Retreat, the whole of Raisina Hill gets illuminated to celebrate, Celebration of Republic.
The reflection of illuminated buildings in nearby water bodies really looks surreal.

Streets of Delhi- My First Photographic Exhibition
Streets make the character of a place- be it people, food, festival and other aspects of human presence. Older cities have more interesting streets just like wrinkle of an old women or stony eyes of a fakir. You feel aromas of street food , ringing of temple bells, and Azan somewhere and then you come to a turn where you see carts and carts of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The color of old city streets are more vibrant if a festival is around. We see shimmering Christmas trees and decorations sometimes and earthy diyas and matkas some other times. Heaps of gulal colors are also seen in the streets around holi. Streets make the mind, body and soul of a city. We see human camaraderie , competition , traffic brawls , street dogs and street vendors all during a lazy weekend walk to any street of this country.
Due to our long association with Banaras, one of the oldest city in the world, we always feel connected with the walled city of old Delhi. We love capturing the pictures of old world and its culture which is well preserved in this part of the city.
To start this blog of mine I thought of sharing my street pictures first as I keep exploring the heritage of Delhi through Photo-walks with DPEG- Delhi Photo Enthusiastic Guild , one of the largest photography groups of Delhi. Recently DEPG along with APEX Academy conducted a specific walk for organising a contest and exhibition on streets of delhi (DPEG's first ever exhibition) at APEX academy. They invited pictures from members of DPEG family (more than 10000 member strong) and selected only few pictures for this Exhibition. One of my pictures also got selected for this exhibition. :)
Other pictures from DPEG members were also quite engrossing and I am sure you will love to see them.
Here are some of the my other pictures from the walled city.
Please go and see the Exhibition which is going on till 19th February , 2014.
